Some folks living on the bubble's edge and beyond are waking up to "boring" quality-of-life issues—like housing cost—that lead them to reconsider how cool it actually is to live in mind-numbing, slavish devotion to their expensively maintained California lifestyles...and finding the Midwest! Today's NY Times has the story.
Still, we've got a long way to go, baby: "A year ago, Melanie Fischer, a lifelong Californian, was not entirely sure where Missouri was. So when her husband proposed that they consider moving there, she raced to locate the state on a map printed on her children's placemats."

Having read the full story about folks moving to "Missouri of all places," I'm glad St. Louis is both affordable and has good Thai food.

[Posted by Heh on Mon., Nov 7, 2005 at 1:08 PM]Yeah, but the article says the Fischers are Christian missionaries who moved to the decidedly conservative KC suburb of Lees Summit MO.
They SHOULD feel more at home there than in No. Cal.
Anyway, because of immigration and births, California is still growing. St. Louis is not.

Moderate temperatures are fine, but I'm more concerned with owning a home that costs 50% less for 50% more space. Not to mention the idea that I could actually pay it off before I'm 60 years old. Plus, you can use all of the left over money to visit anywhere you want to go.
