The Chocolate Bar Melts?

I heard a rumor that The Chocolate Bar has closed. Can anyone out there in blogland confirm that?

If it's true, Blake Brokaw's Simple Syrup empire is down to two venues (from four). Can't we have nice things?

Update: It's worse than I thought. According to an email from a certain AP-award-winning journalist mentioned below, The Chocolate Bar is closed and so is LO. He says Tangerine is also gone or on its way out.

Update #2: The Commonspace scooped the Post. From Deb Peterson's column:

WISH AVE.: Blake Brokaw has closed his club Lo, and is set to close Tangerine on Saturday. Tangerine, a bar and restaurant, was set to mark its eight-year anniversary on Wash Ave. (aka Washington Avenue). Both places were considered linchpins of the hip area's redevelopment. Word is that the same fate is in store for Brokaw's "The Chocolate Bar" on Park Avenue in Lafayette Square.

Remember kids, you heard it here first.

Is it true that Tangerine closed?

Before Rue 13, it was the only place on Wash Ave. I would go. I haven't been to Rue in 6? months, Tangerine over a year.

At a time when the neighborhood is growing and new restaurants are slated all over, and Tangerine's outdoor seating is packed every time I go by, why on earth would they close?

Yeah - don't know about Chocolate Bar - but Tangerine seems to do pretty well. Ditto Lo on Friday and Saturday.

Fox 2 just aired a little segment with Matt from Tangerine. I guess they are blaming the expansion,
gas prices, etc. What a sad, sad day:( So is Blake going to stick around or is he heading for higher ground?

I have heard that they were behind on the sales tax receipts getting to the state. That will put you out of business right quick.

That will make it harder, if not economically unfeasible, for someone to operate under the same liquor licenses as, I believe, the sales tax obligation follows the license.

As of the end of August, the Chocolate Bar was still open, because I was there on like the 24th......yummy!!

The Chocolate Bar re-opened under new ownership and a slightly new name (Baileys' Chocolate Bar). Their website is at http://www.baileyschocolatebar.com/

Does anyone know what happened to Brokaw or where he can be reached?
