Pin-Up Bowl

Amanda and I went to Pin-Up Bowl (6191 Delmar in the East Loop) with a few friends this week for a story she's writing for Where Magazine. Joe Edwards has done it again with this super-cool eight-lane bowling alley and lounge that has a couple of pool tables thrown in for good measure. The most striking part of the swank decor are the flat-screen TVs and video projectors pumping out MTV and the Cartoon Network. I wonder if Joe Edwards looks around St. Louis and thinks, "Jeez, do I have to do everything cool in this town? I mean, c'mon — can I get a little help here?"

I was there Saturday, and you're right -- the best way to describe the place is simply "cool".

My only complaint was the TVs were distracting me while trying to bowl, but on the other hand, it had the coolest jukebox selection ever.

The TVs were distracting me, too. That's why I bowled under 100. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Some friends and I were there on Jan 3rd. We liked it to. Agree the TV's were a bit distracting, I am a bad enough bowler. Trying to watch TV and bowl did not help my cause.

My other complaint was that they were out of most of the beers on the menu that night.

I don't know about Pin Up being a cool place....unless you consider cool as having to sign a waiting list to bowl and wait more than hour...because there's only 8 lanes!! And why is it a requirement for everyone who either waits tables or tends bar in the Loop to have either an attitude (the "I'm better than you becuase I have everything pierced or tattooed and don't own a comb) or the "I can't see anyone waiting at the bar to get a drink...guess I'll just walk around aimlessly. I wonder why all thos people are looking at me like they want something?" complex.

If you want to go somewhere to bowl, I suggest a real bowling alley. It's a whole lot cheaper. If you want someplace "cool" to hang out, go anywhere besides here. There's no room and the service at Pin Up is non existent.

From Deb Peterson's Jan. 13 column in the Post:

SPARE NO STRIKES: Nelly (the Nelly) -- aka Cornell Haynes Jr. -- has something other than Country Grammar up his sleeve. Nelly's 257 game is the high score at Joe Edwards' new Pin-Up Bowl on Delmar Boulevard. Pin-Up staffers are planning to add a plaque with Nelly's name and score on it to the bowling alley's decor. The plaque will stay in place until the rapper's score is topped. Nelly is apparently a regular at the lanes when he's in town.

I think the pin up bowl was big fun!!! My hubby and I were in town and stumbled upon this great place. We arrived late and weren't going to have enough time to bowl but the EXCELLENT staff there hooked us up with another couple already bowling!!! Everyone was friendly there, patrons, employees.... And we are 30 something with 6 kids and hide our tatoos well with all of our piercings taken out...we are pretty middle america and these people were VERY hospitable. It's worth the wait and the extra cash. If you are just lloking to bowl, yeah go elsewhere....but if you are looking for a great scene, this is it!!!

Does the Pin-up have an age restriction?
E-mail me a respone, someone please...

There might be an age restriction late at night, but I think it's open to everyone during the day. There's junior league bowling for kids on Saturday mornings. Pin-Up's number is 314-727-5555.

I went last night with my wife, and my sisters in-law. The bar was cool, the atmosphere was cool, the staff was friendly, but $5 per person per game? If we'd all bowled 2 games that's $40!!

I'll stick with Tropicana if I want to go bowling.

I AGREE WITH JOHN...I AM STICKING WITH TROPICANA ALSO. WENT TO PINUP ON A COUPLES DATE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON 07-07-07 AND I AM MAKING SURE THAT WAS THE LAST TIME. OUR BILL WAS OUTRAGEOUS AND THE BOWLING WAS OVER PRICED BY FAR.....CHARGING $5.00 PER PERSON AND THAT IS NOT EVEN STATED IN THE MENU....WHICH BY THE WAY THE FOOD SUCKS!!!

OH BY THE WAY MR. JOE EDWARDS I THINK YOU ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE WORKING CLASS.
