We Ain't in D.C. or Seattle, Baby!

For those keeping score at home, it seems that our own Washington University has managed to crack that nut known as the U.S. News & World Report top ten college/university rankings...evidently, at least in part, by giving non-needy students cash to call St. Louis their academic home. Interesting read-all-about-it in the NY Times.

Ah, yes, in the fine St. Louis tradition, giving money to people who don't really need it, like sports franchises. However, in this case, it might actually work for St. Louis in that some, maybe just a few, of the out-of-towners will stay and do some good here. Its not like the taxpayers are asked to do that much.

I look at Boston and it draws many college students and most leave, but some stay and make that city vibrant. St. Louis needs more migratory pulls like 'Washington University in St. Louis'.
