A new Web site for the short-lived publication has shown up at pubdef.net. It sports one article and the claim that Pub Def has 30,000 readers. The forums promise that "Pub Def will return very soon." Is Pub Def a Phoenix or just another Icarus? And if it comes back, will Joe Daus' subscription be honored?

St. Louis needs an alternative to the RFT. Is Pub Def it? I don't know. In between totally focusing on the voice of Amanda Doyle, I heard Jim Nesbitt, on Collateral Damage last night, and he remarked that the 'alternative press' is really just cookie cutter assembly line stuff. I tend to agree.
The RFT, while always having a point of view, seems to have lost the desire, money?, to have good reporting. Paying people to go out and gather information does cost and any publication that is going to provide an alternative to the RFT will need something different, like consistently good stories about meaningful topics.
